Bengaluru: The ‘Bharath Bandh’ called by 19 labour unions and supported by various opposition parties, failed to evoke any response in the state. The people were seen going about their usual chores across the state. Some minor incidents of protests were reported.

In the capital city of Bengaluru, BMTC, Namma Metro, train and flight services operated as usual. Cab and bike aggregator services were also available. Schools and colleges stayed open. All the three universities of the district further announced that academic activities will be carried out as usual.

In the rest of the state too, the bandh evoked a meagre response. Bus, auto, and train services were functional. The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) announced that there is no holiday for schools on Wednesday, January 8.

Meanwhile, in Bengaluru’s Freedom Park, labour union members are gathering at 11 am to hold a protest.
