Bengaluru: Amid hard negotiations between both the parties on a seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the state, the Congress party has decided to leave just six seats to its coalition partner JDS. The move has reportedly irked the JDS, which wanted to have at least 12 seats.
According to the sources, the Congress state unit informed CM HD Kumaraswamy that party is not ready to leave more than six seats as the Congress is eyeing at least 20 Lok Sabha seats on its own from the state.
Party also made it clear to the JDS that it will not surrender Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura and Tumakur from where party candidates had won in the 2014 general election amid Modi wave.
“Mandya and Hassan are the two other Lok Sabha seats, which are posing a problem for the coalition. Sumalata Ambareesh desires to contest from Mandya and this has put the JDS in a tight spot.
Challenging Star Darshan and Rocking Star Yash are also lobbying with Congress leaders in favour of Sumalata. All these are testing the coalition government,” said a senior Congress leader.
Meanwhile, Congress appointed MLC CM Ibrahim as the party publicity committee chairman.
