Bengaluru: Justice Santosh Hegde, addressing a press conference on Monday, said that he was feeling embarrassed to call himself a former Lokayukta and regretted the fact that the post had become a ‘rehabilitation post’ for retired judges. He also said that he was not keen on taking up any more government assignment in future.
Justice Hegde had set the benchmark very high as the Lokayukta and this statement came in after the anti-corruption body got embroiled in controversy over graft.
However, he said that since legal and technical difficulties are bound to arise if the incumbent Lokayukta is removed from post, it was proper for Justice Rao to either go on leave or resign.
Justice Hegde strongly favoured a CBI probe into episode.
“I remember that Justice Rao had disowned his son when activist S R Hiremat had brought to his notice the dealings of the institution that his son was involved in. It is surprising that now Justice Rao claims that his son is innocent,” said Justice Hegde adding that there is a different statement each day regarding the CCTV cameras at the office of the ombudsman and there are fears being allayed that files were missing.
