Bengaluru: Reports are now surfacing that strong lobbying for the post of KPCC president is stopping the Congress high command from announcing the name of the new chief.
Yesterday, reports suggested that the party’s national leadership had already decided that Vokkaliga strongman DK Shivakumar would be the new chief of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. It was also reported that the high command had decided to create four working president posts in order to pacify the other aspirants.
It is said that MLA D K Shivakumar and former state minister M B Patil are frontrunners for the post of KPCC president. Reportedly, Siddaramaiah even batted for Patil when he was in Delhi, as he is a close aide. However, after DKShi was released on bail in connection with an alleged money laundering case, it was reported that AICC interim-president Sonia Gandhi had promised him a plum position to reward him for his loyalty to the party.
The reports yesterday had suggested that DKShi would be announced as the new KPCC chief today.
Now, it is being reported that strong lobbying from the other aspirants is preventing the party high command from announcing their choice for the coveted position.
As per reports, there is intense lobbying even for the position of KPCC working president. Congress leader K H Muniyappa, who is said to have withdrawn from the KPCC president race, is now reportedly eyeing the working president portfolio.
It is being said that Muslim leaders are pressuring the AICC to consider party leader Zameer Ahmed Khan for the post of working president. However, some Muslim leaders, including Tanveer Sait, have opposed this.
There is reportedly another faction of leaders who are batting for Dhruvanarayana to be KPCC working president.
