Lingayat seers’ support to Congress will have no impact on BJP: Javadekar

Bengaluru: BJP’s Karnataka in-charge Prakash Javadekar on Monday said the move on the part of some Lingayat seers to extend their support to Congress for proposing a separate minority religion status will have no impact on the ensuing assembly election.

“All sections of the society are going to vote for BJP to remove Siddaramaiah’s bad governance and bring in fast-paced development. The government’s move to accord separate religion and minority tag to Lingayats will not have any impact on ensuing elections,” Javadekar told media persons here.

Some Lingayat seers including Mathe Mahadevi, a prominent Lingayat seer, had reportedly appealed to the community to support Siddaramaiah and Congress in upcoming elections.

Javadekar said people of Karnataka understands the divisive politics of Congress to stall B S Yeddyurappa from becoming Chief Minister.

“Knowing fully well that Manmohan Singh government had rejected the proposal in 2013, the Congress government brought this again to the fore, only to stall Yeddyurappa from becoming Chief Minister,” he said.

“People understand this that this is Congress politics of divide and rule,” he added.

He also questioned the reason for Siddaramaiah government to remain silent on the issue for the last four-and-a-half years.

On Amit Shah’s animal remarks equating opposition parties, Javadekar said, “You have heard him what he said. It was an analogy.”

Shah during a Mumbai rally had equated opposition parties to ‘snakes’ and ‘mongoose’, ‘dogs’ and ‘cats’, who are seeking to unite despite their inherent differences to take on the BJP in next year’s Lok Sabha polls.

Later, Shah said his intention was not to equate Opposition parties to animals.

Earlier, Javadekar released another booklet of charge sheet against Siddaramaiah government.

He said the government has been immersed in corruption as the UPA was during its rule at the centre.

“UPA was involved in many scams and this has been continued during Siddaramaiah’s rule in Karnataka,” he added.

Enlisting the charge sheet, Javadekar said the Congress has been involved in transferring and harassing public servants and police officials.

“Suicides of police official M K Ganapathy and IAS officer Rashmi Mahesh, are some of the examples, everyone knows,” he said.

“Corruption coupled with illegal transfers and harassment of officials have given rise to lawlessness in the state. This is the hallmark of Siddaramaiah government,” he stated.

Javadekar also said land grabbers and sand mafia are ruling the roost in the state.
