Bengaluru: The High Court of Karnataka on Friday directed the state government to hold a discussion with the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) and hear its representation; post which, the government can issue a license after imposing conditions for regulation.

The court also directed the government to constitute a committee in consultation with BTC within 10 days from the receipt of the court’s order.

The state government has not renewed BTC’s racing licence with effect from September 1, 2017.

It may be recalled that the High Court had ordered issue of notice to the State government on the petitions filed by BTC alleging that the government is not renewing its racing licence for ‘extraneous considerations’.

Pointing out that the government had insisted on admission of 50 nominees as club members as a condition for granting of licence under the Mysore Race Courses Licensing Act, 1952, the BTC had contended that the action of the government in seeking such admission is contrary to its Articles of Association and also a violation of Articles 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India.
