Bengaluru: Former minister Vinay Kulkarni, leader of the separate religion tag movement for the Lingayat community and Congress candidate from the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency, has challenged the RSS to keep a portrait of Basavanna in its office. Basavanna is a social reformer of the 12th century.
His challenge came a few hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress party of dividing the Veerashaiva community.
“Basavanna struggled for a casteless society. He worked for inter-caste marriages. He worked for creating an equal society. If the RSS approves of his ideology, let them keep his portrait in their office,” he challenged.
“The RSS and BJP don’t believe in a caste-free system. They want an unequal society. Modi ruined the country. Hope the people will vote him out in this election,” he said.
