Bengaluru: Raj Bhavan, the official residence and office of the Governor of Karnataka is the best role model on managing the garbage. While the entire world is wondering how to tackle the menace of garbage, the Raj Bhavan has taken an initiative to ensure that it becomes a ‘zero waste’ campus by setting up compost unit.
According to authorities, the Raj Bhavan compound houses 50 residences and all the waste is now being used to produce the compost. The leaves and other bio-wastes are processed through three machines and compost is produced using two machines.
“All the wet waste produced in the Raj Bhavan and other residences are being converted into compost. The compost will be used for the trees. The Raj Bhavan has become best living example for how we can make our cities garbage-free,” informed authorities adding that with little bit of planning such compost units can be made in every apartment in the city, which produces about 4,000 tons of garbage every day.
“Namma Kasa, Namma Javabdhari’’ (our waste, our responsibility) initiative was launched by Governor Vajubhai Vala on World Environment Day, June 5.
