K’taka govt will always stand by families of martyred soldiers: CM BSY

Bengaluru: The state government is with the family members of the soldiers who have been martyred for the sake of our country, said Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

He was addressing the gathering at the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ organised by Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement, on Sunday, here.

He offered tribute to the martyrs and said that each and every Indian will remain eternally indebted to the supreme sacrifice of each and every defence personnel.

He said that the Kargil victory was not a easy one give the fact that the soldiers had to fight the enemy in extreme geographic and weather conditions.

“Battling several factors, our soldiers managed to defeat the enemies. The Kargil victory will always be an inspiration to younger generations,” he said adding that out of the total 527 soldiers who were martyred in Kargil war, 16 were from Karnataka.

Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar has also paid his respects to the Kargil war martyrs and veterans.

“On this Kargil Vijay Diwas, I salute the valour and courage of our bravehearts who sacrificed their lives for the nation in teh Kargil war,” said Sudhakar.

India fought a three-month long war with Pakistan in 1999 in Kargil and defeated the neighbouring country 21 years ago on this day, July 26.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai among others were present.
