Bengaluru: An alleged brawl with a party colleague at Eagleton resort ended with a Congress MLA being admitted to hospital, on Saturday.

A local media has reported that Anand Singh was hospitalised after he was allegedly hit on the head with a bottle by JN Ganesh at Bengaluru’s Eagleton resort.

However, the Congress has denied the allegations. Several party leaders this morning were spotted visiting Apollo hospital, where Singh is admitted.

Congress senior leader DK Shivakumar has denied the reports of the fight. He said: “It is impossible, you saw all of them coming and going together. It is all fake news, nothing is true. Everyone is together, the entire Congress party is united”.

When asked about the whereabouts of the two lawmakers who were missing, Shivakumar said, “They are in their rooms, and they will come and meet all of you”.

Shivkumar’s brother and legislator DK Suresh said that Singh was hospitalised this morning as he had a chest pain. Congress leader Raghunath said that they were not being allowed inside to visit the patient.

The Congress’ clarification came after a series of tweets by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

BJP had tweeted, “What more proof do we need to tell all is not well within Congress.. Congress MLA’s in Eagleton resort indulged in physical fight and 1 MLA is admitted. How long will congress be in denial mode and blame BJP for all their differences? When political party is lame, it loves to blame.”

Another tweet read, “It’s unfortunate that @KPCCPresident was unable to stop the fight in Eagleton resort. We hope Anand Singh is being treated and we pray for his speedy recovery. Unfortunately @dineshgrao can’t even blame BJP now, MLA’s were locked up under his watch at Eagleton. Whats ur excuse now?”

On Friday, the Congress moved 76 of its 80 lawmakers to the resort amid fears of poaching by the BJP. Tension had been brewing since last weekend, when the party accused the BJP of launching ‘Operation Lotus’ – a term coined in 2008 when the party allegedly engineered defections of opposition legislators to ensure that its government headed by Mr Yeddyurappa remains stable.
