Bengaluru: Amid protests by the BJP, the BBMP approved the proposal of implementing the Nava Bengaluru scheme projects through the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited, a state-owned agency.
A proposal in this regard was approved at the BBMP general body meeting held on Saturday.
A total of Rs.4,200 crores works will be implemented under the Nava Bengaluru scheme announced by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy in his 2018 budget.
The BJP corporators alleged that the agency is known for corruption and the main idea behind implementing the scheme through the agency is looting the state exchequer. They boycotted the meeting urging the BBMP to defer the decision till the announcement of the Lok Sabha election.
But when the meeting re-convened after the lunch, the Congress and the JDS members passed the resolution by voice vote. The BJP corporators urged them to put it for voting which was rejected by mayor Gangambika Devi.
Later, opposition leader Padmanabha Reddy stated that the BJP will move to court against the decision.
