Bengaluru: Gauri Lankesh was killed by her perpetrators with the sole aim of saving ‘Hinduism’.
The 26-year-old Parashuram Waghmare, who was picked by the Special Investigation Team from Vijayapura early this week has not just confessed to killing Gauri but has said that he was told that he had to shoot her down to save the religion and he did so without knowing the identity of the target.
Waghmare is also believed to have said that he shouldn’t have killed the lady.
Waghmare is said to have told the SIT that he had no idea who he was killing when he pumped four bullets into Gauri’s body outside her RR Nagar residence on September 5, 2017. He has said that while he was told about the plan in May, he was brought to Bengaluru on September 3 after training in using an airgun, in Belagavi.
At least three men took Waghmare to Gauri’s residence three to four times before the day he was to kill her and the killers had to postpone the plan once as Gauri had reached home early on the day they initially planned to kill her.
The identity of these men who accompanied Waghmare has not been ascertained and Waghmare claims to not know them.
