Bengaluru: The much-publicised alleged molestation in KG Halli police station limits has ended up as a stage managed molestation played by the victim and her brother-in-law. Police, who went deep into the alleged molestation case, were baffled to know the truth confessed by the accused during the interrogation.

According to Hemant Nimbalkar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), the police have nabbed the accused Irshad Khan (34), who got married to victim’s sister. “The accused has confessed to police during the interrogation that he was in love with his sister-in-law (victim) for the last three years and wanted to marry her but family members wanted to arrange her marriage with other person. He told the police that he and his sister-in-law enacted a molestation drama to get sympathy from family members. He also thought that it would enable him to marry his sister-in-law without any hassles. He also thought that it would be easy for him to convince his wife for his second marriage since no one would come forward to marry a molested girl,’’ Nimbalkar said.

The additional commissioner of police said the accused had visited KG Halli police station along with the victim when the latter came to file a complaint with the police. “Irshad Khan had shouted at police to not able to protect women in the area. However, he did not anticipate that this incident would help the police to nab him. The police were able to nab him based on the CCTV footage that showcases the walking style of the accused which was similar to Irshad Khan’s gait,’’ he said.

He said both of them used to talk hours together daily over the phone. “The police have to verify whether a molestation really took place or not. The investigation is in progress,’’ he said.

It may be recalled the burkha-clad girl was walking towards the bus stop when the accused followed her and sexually assaulted her. The victim, who in a bid to resist the attack, sustained injuries on her lips, tongue and hand. The accused fled the scene when a stray dog started howling.

However, the victim, who had initially claimed that the accused tried to molest her, had retracted her statement. It is believed that police, after verifying the victim’s phone call details, had nabbed the accused.
