Bengaluru: Two key posts of state executive is becoming vacant in the span of 15 days which has created a selection headache for the state government.

DG-IGP R K Dutta who is a 1981 batch IPS officer is retiring on October 31 and with the election approaching soon, the state is expected to give him an extension of six months.

But if the state government does not give him an extension, the race for the position will be between IGP (fire and emergency services) Neelamani Raju, wife of former special officer to the CM Siddaramaiah Narasimha Raju and CID IGP M N Kishorechandra.

Neelamani Raju is 1983 batch IPS officer and has a tenure of three years. Kishorechandra is a 1984 batch IPS officer. If the state government goes as per the seniority Neelamani Raju will become the first woman DG-IGP of the state.

Chief Secretary Subhash Chandra Khuntia is retiring on November 11. Additional Chief Secretary K Ratna Prabha is the senior most IAS officer who is waiting in the wings for the post. But as she has just six months tenure left, the state government is in a big dilemma.

According to the sources, as Ratna Prabha is from SC community, neglecting her seniority may create problem for the state government in the election year.

But according to the sources a strong lobby within Congress wants home secretary SK Pattanayak as the new chief secretary. “The CM is expected to make a calculated move,” said a senior IAS officer who wished to be unnamed.
