Bengaluru: After the “Statue of Unity” of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the statue race seems to be gaining momentum. While the state of Maharashtra is in the race for constructing the world’s tallest statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in constructing a 151-feet–tall Lord Ram statue, Karnataka too has now joined the race.
The state government has decided to construct a 125-feet-tall Kaveri statue.
Kaveri, in Karnataka, is considered to be the river of life and worshipped in the form of Goddess Kaveri.
This proposal has been made, just a week after the launch of Statue of Unity in Gujarat by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The estimated cost for this project is Rs 1200 Crore.
The proposed statue will be constructed at the Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir in Mandya.
According to sources, the project could be completed within the next two years, and the land required for this project is 400 acres.
The statue is said to constitute a museum and a glass house.
A final decision on it was taken after a brief meeting between the Water Resource Minister D K Shivakumar and Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh.
Ironically, some of the activists are not happy with the project as the water level of the reservoir has depreciated by 50 percent.
