Bengaluru: Amid demand from the BMTC management to increase the bus fare to balance the skyrocketing operational costs, the state government announced that the bus fare will be reduced to ensure that more passengers will opt for the public transport system to decongest the city. The government also announced the induction of another 6,500 buses.
Both these decisions were announced by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, who chaired a review meeting of the BMTC.
Yediyurappa announced that the state government will subsidise fuel and other costs incurred by the BMTC and extend financial assistance to slash the ticket fare. “The idea is to decongest the city roads and ensure that more and more people use the public transport system,” he said.
He also announced the induction of another 6,500 buses including electric buses.
