Bengaluru: The State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has informed the Election Commission of India about Karnataka’s preparations for holding elections to the Legislative Assembly in a single phase.

Sanjiv Kumar, CEO, Karnataka, told presspersons that the State has adequate number of personnel and poll machinery for conducting polls in one phase. However, he said, “The election commission will take a final decision after assessing all poll-related infrastructure in the State. Let us wait for the EC’s announcement.”

In 2013 (May 5), the State went to polls in a single phase.

Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha, along with five other members of the EC, visited the State a couple days ago and reviewed the preparations in the State for the Assembly elections after holding meetings with Chief Secretary Ratna Prabha and top police officials.

The last date to submit applications for additions and corrections has been extended to January 22. The final voter list will be published on February 28.
