Bengaluru: The Government of Karnataka, on Saturday, May 30, banned the use of smokeless tobacco products and spitting in public areas in the state. Now, those who spit in public and use smokeless tobacco will be penalised.
State Minister B Sreeramulu appealed to the people to stay away from paan masala products.
It can be recalled that last month, the Centre had asked all the states and Union Territories to curb public usage of tobacco as it increases the chances of spreading COVID-19.
The government’s move was alaso appreciated by Vishal Rao, member of the high-power committee on tobacco and cancer control, Government of Karnataka.
