Kannada news channel reporter in police net on extortion charges

Bengaluru: The city police reportedly arrested one of the journalists associated with a leading Kannada news channels on charges of extorting money from a renowned doctor in the city.

Prajavani, one of the leading Kannada dailies of the state reported that the journalist working as input chief in a Kannada channel had blackmailed a doctor from the city for Rs 50 lakhs, threating the doctor of releasing his private video. The journalist has already collected Rs 5 lakhs from the doctor, it is said.

Sadashivangar police arrested the scribe on Tuesday for blackamiling the doctor of releasing the CD. He was nabbed when he arrived at the nursing home to collect the amount.

The newspaper has quoted D Devaraj, DCP, central division and according to the report, the journalist collecting the sum of Rs five lakh has been recorded in the CCTV camera at the nursing home. There are also hints that another reporter too had blackmailed the doctor.

However, the journalist who has been nabbed had spoken about his clout with the top police officials.
CP Devaraj has further requested the general public to contact him if any journalist has tried to blackmail them in the same manner.
