Kambalapalli dalit massacre: Sole eye witness dies

Bengaluru: On March 11, 2000, seven dalits were burnt to death in Kambalapalli village which is around 35 kilo meters from taluk headquarter Chinthamani allegedly by around 200 people from upper castes which sent shock waves across the country. It was alleged that this masscre was revenge against the murder of a Reddy youth. This incident had led to thousands of protests across the nation.

One and only living eye witness of this massacre was Venkatarayappa who also lost three of his family members in the incident. On Tuesday, Venkatarayappa passed away at his native village Kambalapalli. His final rites will be held on Wednesday at 10 am.

As incident was reported widely across the nation AICC President Sonia Gandhi also had visited the village as Congress was in power in the state.
