Bengaluru: A scuffle broke out between students of the Jyoti Nivas College in Koramangala and a group of BJP workers on Wednesday, January 8, at around 4 PM. It is learnt that so far, no complaint has been registered regarding the issue.

According to a report by The Quint, an argument broke out between the two parties after a group of BJP workers put up an “India supports CAA” banner on the walls of the JNC. They are also reported to have asked the students to sign on the banner.

The report states that the students objected to the BJP workers putting up pro-CAA banners without permission. In the video recordings of the clash, the some BJP workers can be heard telling the students to “go to Pakistan”, while some others can be heard saying “you are not Indians”.

A JNC student told The Quint that the BJP workers told them that they were “well educated and that they care about the nation” and accused the students of not being on the same wavelength.

When the BJP workers did not take down even after the college staff and the management spoke to them, tempers rose and soon the police were called in and the agitators were dispersed.

Some students, however, claimed that some BJP workers lingered near the college for a little while more and removed the banner after taking selfies with it.

Speaking about the incident and defending the BJP workers, Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan said, “Our workers are trying to create awareness on CAA. They did not violate any law. Creating awareness can’t be an offence.”

Reacting to the scuffle between the JNC students and the BJP workers, Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bomma said that he will initiate a probe into the incident.
