Bengaluru: Till just before the finalisation of the Lok Sabha constituencies, the Congress state unit had allocated only seven seats to their alliance partner, the JDS. The latter agreed to that proposal in Bengaluru and later, managed to secure one more seat during a discussion with AICC leaders in the city.
However, in a big embarrassment to the party, the JDS, at 2 AM on Monday, communicated to AICC Karnataka in-charge K C Venugopal that they want to surrender the Bengaluru North constituency to the Congress as they don’t have a candidate. They were forced to take this decision as Monday is the last day to file nominations.
“This is the condition of the JDS in the state capital. It has no candidate. It should have surrendered the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, Vijayapura and Karwar seats too, as it is now helping the BJP,” said a Congress leader.
