Jail inmates give up non-veg food, donate Rs 10 lakh for flood victims

Bengaluru: In a heartwarming gesture, the inmates of the Parappana Agrahara saved Rs.10,47,078 by sacrificing non-veg food for four weeks and donated the money to the CM’s flood relief fund for the flood-affected families.

As many as 5,035 inmates of the jail unanimously made the decision to give up non-veg food and hand over the amount thus collected for the cause of the flood-victims through the jail superintendent.

According to the sources in the state prison’s department, presently mutton and chicken are supplied to the Parappana Agraharra inmates. Based on the communication received from all the inmates, the jail authorities will not supply non-veg food to them till mid-September. The amount saved will be forwarded to the CMO.

Prisoners informed that they decided to give up non-veg food after learning the difficulties faced by the flood-affected families.
