Bengaluru: Lashing out at the state and Union Governments in connection with the Mangaluru bomb scare case, former MP V S Ugrappa of the Congress party has said that they are responsible for the failure of the intelligence agencies.

As per reports, Ugrappa said that the intelligence agencies in the state and at the Centre are “dead”. “What would (state home minister) Basavaraj Bommai have done if the MIA bomb suspect did not surrender himself to the police on his own?” he asked adding that the state and Union governments are responsible for turning the intelligence agencies “inactive”.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should be ashamed for failing to safeguard the interests of the state and country,” he added.

It can be recalled that on Monday, January 20, a man, now identified as Aditya Rao, placed a bag containing an explosive device near the ticket counter of the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA). The suspicious package was noticed by CISF personnel, who alerted the police. Soon after, the bomb was disposed of by the bomb squad at a ground in Kenjar.

On Wednesday, January 22, Rao surrendered himself to the police in Bengaluru. He was brought to Mangaluru the same day. He will be produced before a JMFC court in Mangaluru today, January 23.
