Bengaluru: The BBMP is mulling over a proposal of keeping the Indira canteens closed on Sundays considering the lesser number of people visiting the canteen on this day.
It is learnt that besides the Indira canteens at KR Market, Majestic and few others, most of the other canteens witnesses lesser footfall on Sundays.
"To ensure that supplied food does not go waste, the BBMP is planning to announce a holiday for the Indira canteens on Sundays," stated BBMP sources.
According to an officer who wished to be anonymous, BBMP has already brought the issue to the notice of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. "But as these canteens have been launched just a few months ago, a final decision in this regard will be taken after analysing the data of next few days, " he said.
"As per the real time information we have received in 30% of the canteens, we have high demand for the food. In rest of the canteens, demand is on par with the expectation," he said.
