‘Indifference of BJP to Ananth Kumar’s ‘constitution’ remarks hurt me’

Mysuru: Just ahead of joining the Congress party, former BJP MLA AR Krishnamurthy said that the indifference shown by the BJP leadership towards the irresponsible remarks on the constitution made by Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde, was the reason why he tendered his resignation to the party.

“The irresponsible statement made by Ananth Kumar Hegde against the constitution has not only hurt my sentiments but that of several others too across state as well as the country. But, surprisingly no senior BJP leader, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah or BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa, condemned his statement or initiated any action against him. I tendered my resignation to the party because of this attitude from the BJP leaders, and will be joining the Congress party during the Congress rally at the Chamarajanagar stadium on March 24,” said AR Krishnamurthy.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Krishnamurthy said, “I had openly condemned Ananth Kumar’s statement regarding the constitution in front of many senior BJP leaders. Though his remarks upset many people, the BJP didn’t take any action against him. This apart, the party started neglecting me gradually and stopped inviting me to any major programmes. This is what pushed me to quit the party”.

Krishnamurthy is also the Congress party’s candidate aspirant from the Kollegal constituency for the forthcoming assembly elections.

“On Thursday I tendered my primary membership resignation and will be joining the Congress party in the presence of AICC president Rahul Gnadhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC President Parameshar and other congress leaders during the rally at the Chamarajanagar stadium on March 24. A few days later, several of my followers too are expected to join the Congress party. I am joining the party without making any demands,” added Krishnamurthy.
