Bengaluru: The forest department directed its authorities be extra careful along the Karnataka-Goa border following findings that the Indian bullfrog species are used in the preparation of ‘jumping chicken fry’ in Goan resorts.
According to Vasantha Reddy, DCF, Joida, strict directions have been issued to the staff at check posts to ensure that the frogs are not transported to Goa from the district.
Wild Welfare Society researchers say that this year, hardly any frogs have been found across the district as the frog trafficking mafia is thriving across the district.
According to Manjunath Nayak, a researcher working with the society, frog hunting started across the district to meet the demands in Goa. “The forest department must act immediately,” he urged.
