Bengaluru: One of the common allegation against the bureaucrats of the country is that they are good in preaching ideals to general public; but hardly follow any. But here is an IAS officer who actually set a new standard for whole of her department. On Friday, Mr PP Chhabra, (81 years), retired IAS officer who is also the father of Mrs. Shalini Rajaneesh, IAS, principal secretary, department of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka government passed away. Instead of holding any final rites of the deceased as per the tradition, Mr. Chhabra’s family donated his body to the government run Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) which will help the students fraternity in coming days.
What makes this decision of body donation more important is that family’s decision to donate it to a government medical college when all the state run medical colleges are facing acute shortage of cadavers due to a number of issues including lack of awareness among the general public and various superstitious beliefs.
