I will support a govt that is pro-people: HDK

Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has criticised BJP leaders for not forming a pro-people administration and has shed light on his political thoughts.

Addressing the media at a programme titled “Madhyama Samwada”  held at Bengaluru Press Club on Saturday, November 2, Kumaraswamy said, “Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has toiled and put in a lot of efforts in order to address the flood victims and has visited the flood-hit areas of the state alone. I appreciate his efforts. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has neglected BSY in terms of flood relief which is like neglecting the people of the whole state.”

“BSY has not got the response from his cabinet ministers as expected in terms of flood relief operations. In my opinion, the government might require more time to handle the situation as there is no coordination between the Chief Minister and his cabinet”, he added.

HDK also said that although it was true that Rs 1 lakh was sanctioned by the state government towards flood victims, according to the government records, the funds had reached several of them but not fishermen and farmers.

‘I will support a government which is pro-people’

HDK said that he had no issues with the CM BSY-led BJP government or even if a Siddaramaiah-led Congress government comes to power in the future because all that he wanted was the upliftment of farmers and implementation of mentioned projects.

He said, “BSY, in his statement at a party meeting of which the video and audio are out, has not said anything wrong. His statement of ‘I didn’t want the CM post’ is a fact as the state political scenario is not in good condition. But if he resigns and President’s Rule comes into play, then what would be the fate of flood victims who are expecting the government to carry out their welfare?”

“The reason I’m saying ‘no’ to by-elections is because, in my opinion, no political party will get full majority which will result in a hung assembly,” he added.

‘Medical college in Chikkaballapur or Kanakapur, is there sufficient money-reserve?’

Speaking about the row over the relocation of a medical college from Kanakpur to Chikkaballapur, HDK said, “I absolutely have no issues on a medical college being established in either of the two locations. I’m happy if they construct it in both places. But my question to the government is, whether there is sufficient money reserved in the government’s treasury for this project? Just for political reasons, the current government has done Bhoomi Puja of the medical college at Chikkaballapur. This government has no other achievement than only doing Bhoomi Pujas.”

‘Did not offer JD(S) MLAs to fly with me to Malaysia in fear of BJP’

Responding to reports that HDK had offered his party MLAs to fly with him to Malaysia, Kumaraswamy clarified, “The reason I flew to Malaysia was for my son Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s movie matter. Reports suggesting that I’m afraid of being charged in the phone tapping case (and hence I am favouring the BJP and giving my statement in support of BJP) is all far from the truth. Our MLAs have been in contact with JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda and they have said that they will not be able to attend the party meeting as they are in London and will return only on November 8. Turmoil in every political party is a common phenomenon. But in our party, it is comparatively less.”

“Some say that JD(S) MLAs are ready to quit the party for which I cannot do anything. Nobody can stop anyone from doing anything,” he added.
