Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who of late has been in limelight for grousing about his helplessness, sought more time to implement the farm loan waiver announced at the recent budget for the state.
The CM said it was impossible for anyone to return the full amount of sum to all the farmers at once. “I don’t grow money on trees,” he said speaking at the 24th World Tribal Day celebrations at the Ambedkar Bhavana in Vasanthnagar here on Thursday, August 9.
Kumaraswamy said that the government was finding it difficult to arrange the Rs 49,000 Crore required for farm loan waiver. “Many complain that their accounts have not been reimbursed. Only I know my pains and troubles,” the CM expressed.
Further, HDK said that he was not toying the farmers on the issue of loan waivers. “I can arrange the funds for repaying the farmers. However, various officials have to be taken into confidence on this matter. The government will repay all the farmers in a few days’ time after the issue is discussed with the cabinet,” he assured.
