Bengaluru: Rappers, “freestylists” and hip-hop artistes gathered at Cubbon Park on Sunday, January 12, to voice their dissent against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and the National Register of Citizens.

The lyrical wizards spat out rhymes to express how they feel and what they think about the Central Government’s move, in order to get the people’s attention.

Artistes from across the city “jammed” in the Cubbon Park on Sunday, singing “No CAA, No NRC”.

Speaking to the media, one of the artistes opined that what the Central Government is doing is unconstitutional as the Indian Constitution does not “differentiate based on religion”.

Another artiste opined that “the time to think about it has passed and the time to act is now”. He said that people need to stand together and oppose the Act.

All across the world, musicians, especially rappers and hip-hop artistes have used their craft to speak out against the police, government and any other authority they feel is “crossing the line”.

Even before the CAA was passed in both the houses of the Parliament and signed by the President, there have been protests against the move.
