Bengaluru: Hospitals run by the BBMP have now launched ‘Niramai’, a facility to create awareness among women about breast abnormalities. This initiative has been undertaken by the government to educate underprivileged women, increase healthcare awareness and make available screening facility to all.
BBMP mayor Gangambike Malikarjun informed that the BBMP hospitals have begun screening under the guidance of a medical expert committee.
She stressed that the screening is important as the number of breast cancer cases in the state has increased. “Preventing it should be our first concern,” she added.
Speaking about the service, CEO of Niramai Dr Geetha Manjunath said that a computer aided diagnostic engine called ‘thermalytix’ will provide the service. The diagnostic engine can detect tumours five times smaller than during a standard clinical exam.
“It is the best technology and also ensures less pain. High-resolution thermal sensing is used and an analytics solution analyses the thermal images,” she explained.
