Bengaluru: Tuesday’s pre-monsoon rain claimed two lives in the city, exposing the poor preparedness of the BBMP.
In the city, rain started in the afternoon and continued till late in the night, claiming two lives in two separate incidents.
The first incident was reported from Begur. A 45-year-old Hema, who was riding a scooty died on the spot when a tree branch fell on her. Even though she was rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to the head injuries.
In the second incident, Shilpa (22) died after bricks of a under construction site fell on her head. A resident of Lakshmidevi nagar, under Nandini layout, Shilpa had completed her Masters in Commerce recently and was selected for a company in a campus selection. Incident happened when she was walking near her home.
Tens of electricity poles were uprooted causing disruption in the power supply. Many areas witnessed falling of tree branches.
The BBMP control room was flooded with complaints all night, said sources.
