New Delhi/Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has requested the Union government to provide 50% financial assistance to waive off farm loans keeping in mind the interests of the farmers of the state.
Speaking at the NITI Aayog meeting held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on June 17, Kumaraswamy said that in the state around 85 lakh farmers are in debt. Farmers suffered huge losses due to drought, the state needs the support of the Union government, he requested.
“I am participating in the NITI Aayog meeting for the first time. Our coalition government is ready to respond to the problems of the farmers, there is a need for support from the Central government. We will join hands with the Centre on the development issue. We will give complete co-operation to the Centre,” he added.
