Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Saturday quashed the appointment of the parliamentary secretaries citing it as unconstitutional. This comes as a big jolt to the state government as this post is used to accommodate all those who miss the ministerial berths.
The high court struck the Karnataka Parliamentary Secretaries (Salary, Allowances and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1963 and the amendment brought in the year 1999.
A division bench headed by the chief justice of the high court justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka delivered this verdict while hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by MB Adinarayana, a resident of Bengaluru and advocate KB Vijaya Kumar.
Both of them had moved the court questioning the then Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s decision to appoint parliamentary secretaries including Anjali Nimbalkar. Now the court struck down the entire act.
As of now, chief minister BS Yediyurappa has appointed several parliamentary secretaries including MP Renukacharya.
