Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court division bench comprising of Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice R B Budihal on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the petition filed by Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF) challenging the proposed steel flyover by the Bangalore Development Authority and subsequently cleared by Government of Karnataka. The division bench will take up the matter for hearing on November 2.
NBF’s legal counsel, Sajan Poovayya, senior advocate, urged the court for an early listing, specifically citing that the state has been accelerating the implementation of the project in order to avoid judicial scrutiny and render the petition infructuous. At this point, Chief Justice indicated that he is conscious of the public opposition to the project, both via the print media and also by personal knowledge of public outcry.

It may be recalled that upon admitting the PIL, the court had given the State Government 6 weeks to respond. The petition challenges the construction of six lane elevated road from Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal flyover (to be constructed in Steel) via Le- Meridian and Mekhri Circle, in the city of Bengaluru, by Bangalore Development Authority at an estimated cost of over Rs. 1800 Crores as per public domain information.

About Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF): NBF is an organization working towards making Bengaluru a model city, with well-planned infrastructure, well laid out neighborhood community models and people-driven governance measures.
