Bengaluru: Commercial check posts set up by the Department of Commercial Taxes were known for corruption and despite repeated efforts things could not be set right here.
But from July 1, 20 check posts set up by the state government on various places especially in border areas will become thing of past. As per the provisions of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) act all these check posts will be canceled.
Disclosing this information at the state assembly on Tuesday, Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah informed that one of the major reforms brought by the GST is cancellation of check posts. He was replying to the allegations made by BJP MLA Umesh Katti that all the commercial check posts of the state have become the den of corruption.
He alleged that commercial check posts on the Karnataka-Maharastra border have become fertile ground for corrupt officials of the department of commercial taxes and wanted CM's reply on measures taken by the state government to eradicate corruption.
Replying to his question CM informed that all these check posts will be abolised from July 1.
