Bengaluru: H.D Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister of Karnataka on Monday, September 3 informed that the Government has approved the proposal to rebuild government school and college buildings.
“Rs 505 crores has been allotted for the repair of Primary schools and Rs 78.90 crores allotted for high school buildings. As soon as the tender is approved the repair work will begin” he said adding that an additional Rs 150 crore has been released to build toilet in primary and secondary schools.
The Chief Minister has suggested that the officials study the steps taken by the Delhi government and submit a report recommending ways to improve the quality of education in Karnataka’s government schools.
He has directed officials to submit a comprehensive report on improving the quality of education in government schools. “There must be no compromise,” he has said.
“Recruitment of teachers, maintenance of school buildings and infrastructure issues were among the points discussed in the meeting,” he added.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has welcomed the initiative.
Most of the lower class children study in Government schools as they cannot afford the expense of private schools, it is government’s responsibility to provide quality education and good environment to the students said, Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary, Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
In a series of tweets, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said Kumaraswamy’s government has prioritised education at a meeting with officials of the department.
