Bengaluru: As north Karnataka continues to reel under severe floods, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced on Friday that emergency relief of Rs 85.49 crores has been released to handle the situation.
According to a report by DH, the state government also released input subsidy of Rs 36.51 crores as compensation for crop loss suffered by 51,810 farmers due to the floods that occurred in the previous months.
During a review meeting with Deputy Commissioners, Zilla Panchayat CEOs and Police Superintendents of more than a dozen flood-hit districts held via video conferencing, the CM directed officials to ensure that the Covid-19 standard operating procedures were being followed at the various relief centres.

Speaking to reporters, CM BSY said that the DCs have sufficient funds. Stating that he has appraised the Centre about the situation, he informed that he has spoken Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has assured the Centre’s cooperation. “We are committed to protecting our farmers,” he added, according to the DH report.
Districts like Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadir, Bellary etc. have received very heavy rainfall over the past few weeks owing to a depression in the Bay of Bengal, which has resulted in a record inflow in the Bhima river and its tributaries leading to flooding in many places.
BSY further directed that residents in villages who may see flooding to be moved to relief centres. Masks should be provided to them and social distancing should be maintained, he said and added that measures must be taken to move patients with Covid-19 symptoms to hospitals.
