Bengaluru: To grant the people a longer break next weekend, the state government is mulling declaring October 20 as a holiday for government employees considering that October 18, 19 and 21 (Thursday, Friday and Sunday respectively) are holidays.

The Chief Minister’s Office has said that the move was prompted by a suggestion from Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

October 18 is a holiday on account of it being Ayudha Pooja and Vijayadashami falls on October 19. During occasions like this, many employees tend to take an extended break, and that is why the government is planning to declare October 20, the third Saturday, as a holiday and ask their employees to work on October 13, the second Saturday instead.

According to sources, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms may issue an official order in this regard soon.
