Bengaluru: The state government is now expanding the Indira canteen network across the state. As per the plans, the government is planning to set up as many as 400 such subsidised canteens across the state and 200 canteens will be opened in Bengaluru alone.
These 200 canteens will be set up by the BBMP. In totality, the 400 canteens will come up mainly in the urban pockets of the state.
According to the sources, the state government has directed the Urban Development department to ask all the urban local self-government agencies to prepare a blueprint over implementing this scheme in all the cities and towns.
As per the initial proposal, in every city corporation limit, 10 to 15 Indira canteens will be set up. In other towns, 2 to 5 such canteens will be set up.
“Numbers of canteens will be decided based on the population of towns,” explained an officer from the department.
