Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested a public servant in connection with the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh. Accused government employee Rajesh Bangera (50) was produced before the court which remanded him to police custody for 13 days.

According to sources, Rajesh, a native of Mangaluru, is an employee of the education department in Karnataka and his family resides in Madikeri. He was arrested based on the information given by Mohan Nayak whom the SIT arrested from Sullia last week.

Reports said that Rajesh and Mohan were friends. They were introduced to Amol Kale, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of the scribe, through a mutual friend.

SIT served Rajesh a notice of personal appearance after it pieced together information that both Mohan and Rajesh were in contact with Amol Kale. However, the sleuths said that they suspected Rajesh of extending assistance to the killers, though he was not directly involved in the murder.
