Bengaluru: Disqualified MLAs K Gopalaiah and Byrathi Basavaraj filed their nominations for the by-polls under the BJP’s symbol from the Mahalakshmi Layout and K R Puram Assembly constituencies respectively, on Monday, November 18.
By-polls for 15 of the 17 Assembly constituencies will be held on December 5. Counting for the same will be held on December 9.
It can be recalled that 16 of the 17 disqualified MLAs joined the BJP recently. As many as 13 of them will be contesting in the upcoming by-polls.
The Supreme Court, last week, upheld former speaker Ramesh Kumar’s disqualification of the 17 MLAs (formerly of the Congress and JD(S)) for defying their respective parties’ whip to be present for the floor test, while also allowing them to contest in the elections. It can be recalled that the MLAs’ absence for the crucial trust vote led to the fall of the erstwhile Congress-JD(S) coalition government.
