Bengaluru: The Income Tax department has seized more than Rs 82 Lakh cash from the residences of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s leaders in Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency.
The I-T department conducted raids on the residences of the BJP leaders in the rural and urban areas of Sirsi taluk. Simultaneous raids were conducted at BJP leader R V Hegde’s Chipgi residence and BJP candidate Ananth Kumar Hegde’s close aide Krishna Elase’s Vivekanand Nagar residence.
The officials have seized more than Rs 82 Lakh in cash and Rs 6.2 Lakh worth of gold jewelry from the residences of three party leaders. Envelopes carrying Rs 5,000 cash were also found in the car of one of the BJP leaders. The total amount in the envelopes was Rs 9.2 Lakh. According to sources, Rs 71 Lakh has been seized from R V Hegde’s residence alone.
Krishna Elase is the secretary of District BJP Yuva Morcha and R V Hegde is the BJP Rural Unit President. Eight officials from Hubli I-T office conducted the raids.
