Bengaluru: The Girinagar police nabbed three notorious chain-snatchers and recovered stolen jewels valued over Rs 18 Lakh and solved 19 cases related to chain snatching in the city.
Police arrested Imran Pasha (31), a resident of HSR Layout, Afzal Sharif (34) of Bommanahalli and Abdul Shafaqat of Ramanagar and recovered gold valuables weighing over 652 grams from them.
The city police had formed teams to track down criminals involved in chain snatching crimes following an increase in the number of cases. They had intensified vigilance at strategic locations and also had kept track of men released from jail in addition to creating public awareness.
Main accused Imran Pasha, a driver by profession had borrowed money exceeding Rs 1.5 Lakh. Meanwhile, he started watching crime serials on television and social media platforms like YouTube and felt chain snatching was the easiest option for a happy and luxurious living, devoid of loans. He lured Afzal Sharif into the trade as he too owed money to several lenders. Collectively, they got into chain snatching and succeeded in relieving 19 women of their chains, till they ran out of luck.
The special team of the city police finally nabbed the trio after a thorough probe.
