Bengaluru: The Kothanur police have arrested five people, including three women, for allegedly blackmailing people. The racket was busted when the gang tried to extort Rs. 50,000 from a fish vendor who approached the police.
The police have identified the accused as Shahina, 40, Noori Shama, 35, Salma Parvin, 27, Sajid Sheikh, 38, and Syed Shariff, 30.
According to the police, the women would lure businessmen and vendors to pre-designated places with the promise of sexual favours. Sajid and Syed would take videos of the men and blackmail them citing the footage.
Their luck ran out when their victim (a 50-year-old fish vendor) — decided to approach the police. “The gang confessed to duping many people, but no one had complained so far fearing adverse publicity,” said the police.
