Bengaluru: Following the possibility of severe drought in the South Interior Karnataka, the state government is considering the proposal of declaring agriculture holiday in five districts of the state including Mysuru, Mandya and Ramanagar.
“Due to the failed monsoon in South Karnataka region including Kodagu, there is hardly any inflow in Kabini and Cauvery rivers. KRS dam has just 27 cmft of water. So state government is left with no option other than announcing agriculture holiday,” informed sources both in state major irrigation and agriculture department.
“Condition is good in North Karnataka and Hyderbad Karnataka region. But as Cauvery is the lifeline of Bengaluru city, banning the agriculture activities in the catchment areas is the only option left,” sources informed.
