First transgender to join state secretariat, now made regular staff

Bengaluru: The first transgender to join the state secretariate, Monisha (32) has created a new record by becoming the first transgender to become a full-time employee at the state secretariate located in the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi.

Interim chairman of the state Legislative Council, Basavaraja Horatti announced the decision of regularising Monisha’s services.

“It is a historic decision. There is no reservation for the third gender in the appointments. She joined the services as a temporary employee and now his service has been regularised. As of now, she will work in Belagavi,” he said.

Monisha, a resident of Belagavi got a temporary job with the secretariat, six months ago, after the intervention of the state High Court. She is currently working as a group D employee.
