Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Limited (KSRTC) has started an ambulance service, which is first of its kind in India.

In the case of accidents on the highways, the needy may call 1062 to get the ambulance service. The experienced nurses in the ambulance will give the first aid and ambulance would rush to the nearest hospital.

KSRTC has signed a memorandum of understanding with Golden Hour Trust to provide the service. For the time being, the corporation has introduced single ambulance in Bengaluru and the service will be extended to 16 districts, said the Transport Department sources.

The KSRTC ambulance has the capacity of 10 common ambulances. It can transport 8 patients with severe injuries and 16 patients with smaller injuries at once. It can carry all medical instruments you need for emergency treatment and wheelchairs. There will be automated external defibrillators, ECG/pulse oximetry meter, centralized suction facility, first aid kit, jumbo oxygen cylinder and extrication materials in the ambulance.

GPS system, wireless communication system, and CCTV cameras also installed in the ambulance. The Transport Department is thinking of installing computers to these ambulances to know what is happening inside during emergency.
