Bengaluru: The online bar licence renovation process was launched across the state from June 29. Basavaraju Ullagaddi of Koppala was the first person to renovate his bar license through digital mode.

Earlier, the bar owners had complained to the excise department that during the bar licence renovation in July every year, they had to pay around Rs 2 Lakh as a bribe. To put an end to this corruption, the department has introduced online bar license renovation process. From the 10,240 liquor shops in the state, the excise department gets around Rs 580 Crore of revenue.

Deputy Excise Commissioner S L Rajendra Prasad said that to control corruption, the online bar licence renovation process has been implemented from this year itself. Licenses will be cancelled if bar owners don’t get them renovated.

For the bar license renovation, the owners should apply online and upload the receipt of renovation fees paid in the bank. The excise inspectors will review the application and send it to the district deputy excise commissioner. Finally, deputy commissioner will renovate the license with his digital signature. This process not only speeds up the renovation process but also helps to control corruption.

On the very first day, more than 100 bar licenses were renovated.
